Edric Connor

Trinidadian born Edric Connor was a pioneering actor, musician, producer and director. Connor left Trinidad in 1944 for England and established himself as an actor and a musician, performing on BBC radio, and television programmes during the early 1950s. Connor acted in a total of 18 films and was best known for his role as ‘Dagoo’ in John Huston’s 1956 production of Moby Dick. He was the first black actor to perform in Shakespeare at Stratford-Upon-Avon, and along with his wife Pearl Connor-Mogotsi launched the influential Negro Theatre workshop at London’s Lyric Theatre in 1963.
